 Every Clatskanie Tournament is Unique!  We present awards for more
than just winning chess... our goal is to encourage scholastic players to do and be  their best!

Four Sections


Novice, U800, U1200 and 1200+.  Wondering which section is right for you? Email Kate for a little help.
 
 The tournament director reserves the right to add or change sections to evenly distribute prizes.  If sections are added, prizes will be added as well.  Early registration is important!
 
 
Novice Section

Requirements:  Open to ages 5-16 who have participated in less than 5 tournaments, USCF membership is not required.  Entry Fee:  $10 in advance / $20 at the door Awards: Trophies for 1st-3rd place, medals for 3+ wins, plus free
USCF Membership to the First Place Winner!  Last place finishers will be
entered into a drawing to win free entry to our next event.   Format: 5 Round Swiss, G30
 
 
Under 800

Requirements:  Open to rated players ages 5-18 or unrated players
ages 5-12.  Current USCF Membership is required and may be purchased onsite.   Last place finishers will be entered into a drawing to win free entry to our
next event. Entry Fee:  $12 in advance / $24 at the door.   Awards: Trophies for 1st-3rd place, medals for 3+ wins  Format: 5 Round Swiss, G30, clocks and notation are recommended.
 
 
Under 1200

Requirements:  Open to rated players age 5-18 or unrated players
age 13-18.  Current USCF Membership is required and may be purchased onsite.   Entry Fee:  $12 in advance / $24 at the door.   Awards: Trophies for 1st-3rd place, medals for 3+ wins.  Format:  4 Round Swiss, G45, clocks and notation required.
 
 
Over 1200

Requirements:  Open to ages 5-18.  Current USCF Membership is
required and may be purchased on site.  Entry Fee:  $15 in advance / $30 at the door  Awards:  Cash prizes awarded to 1st-3rd place (50% cash prize,
amount will vary depending on the number of entries), medals for 3+ wins
Format:  4 Round Swiss, G45, Clocks and notation required.
 
USCF MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION:  In order to play in any section,
except novice, you must have a current USCF membership.  You may sign up
or renew your membership on the day of the tournament.  Email us for more
information regarding membership fees.

Sportsmanship (Please note - Anyone may receive the best sportsmanship
award, even first place!).   Early Registration Drawing & Raffle - All early registrations will  be entered into a drawing to receive a $50 Series EE Savings Bond.  Something Else! - We also have something special for players who
did their best and learned a lot!  No one goes home empty handed.
 
Tie Breaks

Place Tie Breaks - Final placement will be determined by computer
tie break.  Award Tie Breaks - If two players tie for an award, the winner will
be  determined by Blitz (G5).   If three or more players tie for an award, the winners will be determined by a single Round Robin Blitz tourney (G5).
 
Please note... in the top two sections it's almost a guarantee that there
will be blitz tie breaks.  Be sure to practice this skill so you'll be
ready!

Where the heck is Clatskanie?  We're just across the river from
Longview, WA and about an hour NW of Portland.  A few blocks from our playing site is a covered skate park, kayak rentals and a great pizza place!  Our tournaments are friendly, fun and definitely worth checking out.
 
 Directions:  Take I-5 to the
Longview WA exit #36.  Turn left onto 15th Ave.
 Take the Lewis & Clark bridge across the
Columbia River.  Turn right onto
 Hwy 30, travel 11 miles.  We're a one stoplight town... don't blink  or you
 may miss it!  Two streets past the light, turn left onto
Bryant  Street.  The
 Community Center is 5 blocks up on the left.  Or.... take Highway
30 and follow the directions above.

Fees vary - see above sections.  Entry fees must be postmarked at least five  days prior to the event in order to qualify for the in advance rate.

Side Events
While we're calculating awards, join the gang in a wild Blitz or Bughouse elimination mini tournament with additional prizes.  This event is open to
 anyone and... it's FREE!
 
 
Concessions
Beverages, snacks, Subway sandwiches and sweet things will be available
 onsite.   Bring Chess sets & clocks if you have them.
