Washington Scholastic Rating System (WSRS) rated!

You Washington players have this as your last local chance to tune up for State!  You Oregon players will have your State tournament the previous week, so extend your season and use the skills you have built!

Location: Brush Prairie Baptist Church, 11814 NE 117th St, Vancouver.  To get there from I-5, take State Route 500 Exit, go east on SR 500 through Orchards.  Road curves 90 degrees to north, becomes 117th Ave.  Follow 117th Ave two or three miles north, church is on the left at traffic light at intersection of 117th Ave and 119th St.  Location is just north of Prairie High School, and just across the street south of  Bowyer's Par 3 Golf Course.  Tournament is held in Education Building, in southwest corner of church campus.  To get there from I-205, take Orchards exit (about 3-4 miles north of Columbia River).  This puts you onto SR 500, follow directions given above.  You can print a map showing the church’s location by going to the church’s website at and clicking on the “find us fast” heading.  Please do this if this is your first visit to our site.

Format: 5 round Swiss. Sections: K-3; 4-6; 7-12.  Players grades K-6 can qualify for State (assuming adequate enrollment of 32 in a section), while players grades 7-12 are welcome to play in a separate upper section!

Schedule: sign in 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., play starts asap after that.  Clocks will be used to be sure we are entirely done by 4:00 p.m.  Grades 7-12 play Game-30 with clocks.  No lunch break is taken.  New rounds start asap after previous.  Munch a sandwich between rounds.

Awards: Trophies  plus medals.  All awards will be individual; no team standings will be kept.

Bring: Chess sets, clocks (for gr. 7-12, if you have one—we have several), lunch.  Some snacks on site, also available at nearby stores.

To Register: send check for $10 in advance, ($15 at the door) made out to Marie Palm, to 513 NW 86th St, Vancouver, WA 98665.  You can enter your children directly; it is not necessary to have your child's club send it in.   Call 360-574-3001 for more info, or e-mail     For each player, give first and last name, grade, school/club.  We can look up their WSRS rating with just that information, so don't bother to look up their WSRS I.D. number or rating. Players who do not have WSRS rating will earn one by their play at the tournament, so our Oregon players will have no problems from this.  Space is limited to about 100 players, so register early.  Registrations must reach Marie by Thursday, March 20  to qualify for the "in advance" rate.
