3RD ANNUAL SW WASHINGTON GRADE LEVEL TOURNAMENT, JAN. 12, 2002

Grade Level tournaments are becoming popular, so now Southwest Washington will have one, WSRS rated, and a state tournament qualifier!

Location: Brush Prairie Baptist Church, 11814 NE 117th St, Vancouver.  To get there from I-5, take State Route 500 Exit, go east on SR 500 through Orchards.  Road curves 90 degrees to north, becomes 117th Ave.  Follow 117th Ave two or three miles north, church is on the left at traffic light at intersection of 117th Ave and 119th St.  Location is just north of Prairie High School, and just across the street south of  Bowyer's Par 3 Golf Course.  Tournament is held in Education Building, in southwest corner of church campus.  To get there from I-205, take Battle Ground exit (about 3-4 miles north of Columbia River).  This puts you onto SR 500, follow directions given above.

Format: 5 round Swiss.  Sections will include as few grade levels as possible for State qualification  in order to allow players to play mostly  grade level peers.  So we may even have some sections consisting entirely of one grade, if enough players from that grade level enter. Players grades K-6 can qualify for State, while players grades 7-12 are welcome to play in a separate upper section!

Schedule: sign in 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., play starts asap after that.  Clocks will be used to be sure we are entirely done by 4:00 p.m.  Grades 7-12 play Game-30 with clocks.

Awards: Trophies for first and second place in each grade K-8, and a first place in grades 9-12, plus additional awards (medals or trophies)  to third place and below in grades, depending on number of entrants in grade.  All awards will be individual; no team standings will be kept.

Bring: Chess sets, clocks, lunch.  Some snacks on site, also available at nearby stores.

To Register: send check for $10 in advance, ($15 at the door) made out to David Palm, to 513 NW 86th St, Vancouver, WA 98665.  Parents can enter their children directly in this tournament; it is not necessary to have your child's club send in the entry for you.   Call 360-574-3001 for more info, or e-mail johnpalm2@home.com    For each player, give first and last name, grade, school/club.  It is not necessary to give WSRS # and rating; we can look it up with the above information.   Registrations must reach David by Thursday, Jan.10  to qualify for the "in advance" rate.
